Sad to say, it's over...

You have found the pages relating to one of our past events. We have photos from this even in our magazine from December 2011, and some more images in our Gallery page.

If you'd like to get a flavour of what we do when we're having fun, then read on...

What’s on this year?

Lublin Polish Cultural Group
Zilzal performing at Jackson St

Workshops and socials: This year we have dance workshops with specialist teachers in Bulgarian dance and French community dance. For the foot-sore, there are alternative sessions, with singing on Saturday, and flex-and-stretch on Sunday.

We'll have a session to celebrate the dances of the late Kate Goodwin, and on both evenings there are socials with live bands and performances, to which everyone is welcome.

On Monday, after the Folkdance New Zealand AGM and some revision, we'll finish off with a return to Aotearoa, by making poi and learning a simple poi dance.

See the timetable on the Programme page.  Session details are on the individual tutors' pages.

Sunday - Bal Français

On the Sunday, we have a fun evening to get you moving to French music played live, with cultural performances by: Polish cultural group Lublin, and Zilzal Tribal Bellydance. Casual entry $15/$10 for those not registered.

Do consider coming to the Bal preparation session at 3.30pm to learn the dances for the Bal Français Sunday evening! A very worthwhile $15 at door if not otherwise registered for this session.

What to wear? Come dressed to enjoy moving to folk music in a community context. A French bal is not the equivalent of an English ball. It's not a formal thing - it's just a dance, a social, the sort of thing the French have weekly.

Where is Camp 2011 being held?

The 2011 Camp is being held in the main hall of Wellington Girls’ College, Pipitea Street, Thorndon, Wellington.  The school is on the north side of Wellington, about 10 minutes’ walk from the railway and bus stations, and 15 to 20 minutes’ walk from most of downtown Wellington. Go to the venue details page for directions, parking information and a map.

Who can come to Camp 2011?

Camp workshops are designed for folk dancers. They are not generally suitable for complete beginners* or children (sorry!). However, the evening socials are for everyone, so family and friends of all ages and stages are very welcome, including folks not attending other workshops (entry $15 / $10).

* If you've been to the sort of dance class where you learned basic steps like the grapevine, etc., you're not a complete beginner!

Fee Options

Please see the Registration page for details about fees and conditions. Flexibility has been built in, so you can structure your attendance how you wish. Please note, catering will be available for those who register by 27 May.

Book early!  There’s a lot on in Wellington that weekend.  We’ve listed some local accommodation options on the Accommodation page.

We will provide morning and afternoon teas (tea, coffee, juice and something yummy), and lunches. This will all be meat-free. There will light refreshments at the evening dances.  Drinking water will be available at all times.  If you have special dietary requirements, please note them on the registration form. We’ll do our best to ensure you have the right things to eat.

We can only cater for people who register by 27 May. People coming on a casual basis on the day will need to feed themselves. There is a big supermarket near the school, and various eateries close by. We’ll have more specific information at the camp.

Your Personal Information

We will use the details you provide us with on your registration form for camp administration. We also plan to prepare a list of the names of people who register, to share with other participants. If you do not want your name put on that list, please tell us on the registration form.

CDs and other resources will be available for purchase at the camp. At this stage, we don’t know exactly what will be available.  If you are likely to want to buy these, please bring cash.

Don’t hesitate to ask!  The best way to contact us is by email organisers: camp @ . This will be checked regularly, but not necessarily daily.    If that doesn’t work for you, you can phone Michele on 04 972 2350, or Sonia on 027 405 1302.
